SharePoint Solution Architecture for New Zealand Size Deployments

23 July 2014
10.30AM- 11.30AM

Presented by Ian Morrish

Room: Westhaven

Session Description:

Or "The Tiny Farm". Microsoft designed SharePoint 2013 for massive scale (both cloud and on-premises) but this introduces an overhead for smaller organisations who have to deal with hardware and licensing constraints.
This technical session will look at how to translate Microsoft best practice into good practice to achieve the functional requirements and identify some of the tradeoffs required to minimise licensing and hardware non-functional requirements.

KiwiRail Case Study – Mobility that Really Matters

23 July 2014
11.45AM- 12.45PM

Presented by Helen Bennett

Room: Great Room 3

Session Description:

The rail industry is highly regulated. Field staff need to know what maintenance is being carried out on the network and have access to applicable procedures and codes of practice. This content is published on KiwiRail's intranet, but getting it into the field has historically been manual and paper-based.

Find out how KiwiRail developed a solution that:

- was straightforward to use by field staff

- had information available offline, if out of internet coverage

- highlights updates to content

- synchronises content when the devices come into internet connectivity

- reduced the amount of hardcopy documents that needed to be distributed, tracked and
  manually updated
