Smart Labels Update - June 2025
What's new?
We are excited to announce an update to our iWorkplace app, Smart Labels. In addition to reflecting Microsoft’s best practice recommendations.
Please note, this update is only for organisations that only have Smart Labels and not Smart Records. We will be deploying a new update to Smart Records later in 2025.
There are three key changes to Smart Labels as part of this update:
- Smart Labels now its own standalone webpage
- Smart Labels settings and logging will no longer be located within the Smart Records
- Smart Labels User interface has been changed

Additional Changes
- “Create Set Label Column” can only be created as type “Text Column”
- You will no longer be able to set a choice column or managed metadata column.
- This will have no effect on settings labels etc. If you have an existing configuration that contains choice column or managed metadata column to be created on new libraries this will still work. The only difference here is if you want to change those settings the only option will be to create a text column instead.
- Reporting mode had been added
- If enabled, Retention Labels will not be set by Smart Labels, but all default values will be filled out in the “Set Label” columns for lists and libraries.
- This allows you to audit/review labels that will be set on documents before the retention label is set. Disabling this mode returns Smart Labels to normal functionality.
- There is only one logging page now.
- In the previous version, there was a “Label Logs” and “Label Errors” page.
- With this update, there is a sorting and filtering option available for each column within the logs table. Both options are in the column headers:

What do you need to do?
In the event a rollback is required, we will return Smart Labels the previous version and let you know.
